full size or factory?

I have a 72 Scout II I just picked up. It already has a SOA with crossover and hi-steer and 4.11s with detroits front and rear. Dana 44 front and 30 rear. I would like to do a full size swap instead of having to cut and turn my axles and spend an un-godly amount of money is a disc brake swap. Has anyone ever done a track bar setup on a Scout? Any results or ideas? And can I use Scout springs with Chevy axles? Thank you all for your help.

Sorry I posted tthat wrong. 30 front and 44 rear with detroits and 4.11s. If I do swap to full widths are these axles useful to anyone or should I scrap them?

Not sure if you have run a Dana 30 front before, or what kind of wheelin you do. The 30 is fairly strong for what it is, up to maybe 35" tires. Not sure where you are from my friends and I wheeled ours over the rubicon quite a few times, they held up well. However, foredyce trail tends to eat them, especially without a lot of aftermarket parts. All this being said I am going to put a waggy narrow 44 in the front of my Scout very soon.

As far as the cut and rotate goes, it's really no big deal. Once you do it you will wonder what the big deal was.

There is a post somewhere on this board about using a junkyard Chevy caliper mount, and Jeep cj rotor for a dirt cheap disk conversion on a Dana 30.

Until I found my waggy 44 I was going to get a junkyard set of waggy flat top 44 knuckles with some Ford outers and bolt them on my 30 to build a hybrid 44/30. Then if I ever found a Scout 2 44 center I would have a true 44, without the crappy Dana 30 outers that Scout puts on their 44's.

Hope this gives you a couple ideas and not just confusion.

Oh yah, the rear has value especially to a Jeep guy, the front probably minimal.

I haven't done any wheeling with it yet but I would like to take it to the con and other trails. I don't plan on going bigger than 37s but I was considering fullsize Chevy half tons because of the extra balance and durability. The po said with 32s he was blowing that stubshaft u joint constantly and now the u joint is blown and one of the ears on the stub shaft is broken off so that needs to be replaced. I found a 12 bolt rear and 44 front for 150 so I might consider that. How much should I ask for my axles? I have extra rear shafts and new brakes.

So I started ripping out my old axles and going to start grinding off the factory spring mounts so I can make a reverse shackle kit, but im still not sure if I want to run stock springs, add a leaf, lift springs, or Chevy springs... Found a Chevy Dana 44 with 3.73's here in town for $75, so ill stick that in the front. Now just looking for a Dana 44 or 12 bolt rear to match.

I am working on that myself. The 56" (?) Chevy 1/2 ton springs are almost the same length as the stock rear Scout 2 springs. They are $80 or less at the pick and pull. The center pin is offset about 1.5" though. It could be used to keep the tire out of the fender. Only thing is that they are 2.5" wide as opposed to the 2" Scout ones. My Scout ones are worn where the second leaf hits the main leaf, I guess they break there.

I am going to go with the 63" Chevy springs. About as long and cush as it gets, hopefully the wrap won't be too bad. If I have to change the mounts the 63's will be just as easy to fit.

I am going to try to run the stock front ones SOA. I hope this will work?????

I have a 12 bolt with 4:10s set up for spring over using Scout 2 springs. I upgraded to a 14 bolt. It has new brake hardware but you would need to run new hard lines as I scavenged some fittings for my 14 bolt.

It has the perches and shock mounts already on it.

Just a thought. I have a Ford 9" housing from an early Bronco. It needs shafts, alloy ones are cheap from Yukon. Width is about the same as stock Scout. Also have a full width one complete. Oh yeah, and a fairly narrow 60 rear. I would trade any one of them for your rear 44 if that would help you.

I think I might use the stock springs at least for now. I worry about the rear end and how close the tire is to the inside of the rear fender. Unless I drill a hole in the spring perches 1" to set the axle back a little. Has anyone tried that? I still have my Dana 44 rear and a 9" sounds do-able but what is the width on the spring mounts? I would like to go full width for the extra balance. Korllach what's up with your 12 bolt? Just needs brake lines? What gears?

Shoot me an offer, it just needs new hard brake lines. I have thought about just sending it off to the crusher, as I have no use for it. Just taking space in the shop. I will shoot some iphone pics tomorrow.

4:10 open, new seals, bearings and brake hardware.

I have never shipped anything or had anything shipped so do you have an idea on how much shipping might be?

Probably have to send it freight. I can check once I get to work what it would be. It would be cheaper if it was sent to a business that regularly gets freight shipments. Shoot me a zipcode.

Google maps say you are only 6 hrs and 40 mins away from caldwell, if you wanted to drive up and get it you can have it for free.

Only problem I have with that is my only other vehicle is a dodge ram on 38" nitto mud terrains and gets shitty mileage.
