Fuel Sending problem

I have now got all the gauges and wiring problems solved and I am getting the wrong readings at the gauge. I have the new sending unit (#sl402522c2) mounted to a bucket and directly wired to the truck (1976 SSII). The gauge in dash swings to past full with float all the way at top of range and 1/4 tank hanging at the bottom of range. Just talked with Jeff and he suggested I post this on forum for help. The old sender was being replace partly due to float sinking (had crack) & the fuel feed tube soilder had cracked, plus tank was leaking de to o'ring folding over. When I bench tested the senders against each other I got different readings? New sender with arm/float at top of range or full-11ohms, at bottom of range or empty-83 to 88 ohms. Old sender same test up or full about 0 to 7ohms, at bottom or empty-93ohms. Is there a possiblity that the new sender is not working correct?

Actually you talked to me. I handle most of the phone calls.

After reading your issue, I would think that you should just be able to bend the arm to match what it is you need it to do. Should be a very simple fix.

When you say you've got the guage problems fixed, do you still have the oem guages? Oem fuel guage uses a cvr to control voltage it May have to be adjusted. It is mounted to the back of the oil pressure guage. It controls the voltage to the 5vdc the guages work off of, and the is a small adjustment screw on it.
The way I set it is to fill the tank to the brim then adjust the cvr to the fuel guage reads "full" the empty setting should be right if it reads full.
Your ohm readings on the new sender is about right on so you might look at the cvr.

Yes do have the factory guages and they are all working correctly as they have all been tested. I did say that I have re-connected the prevous sender and it opperated the fuel guage to the correct settings. My father-in-law (continental aircraft mechanic) help me fins out if the dash was only getting 5 volts or less which it is. He read the factory service manual to trace the wiring and help me test the guages.

Yes the guages are oem and all have been tested by a machine at a friends house. If you recall I said I hooked up the old sending unit and it opperates the fuel guage correctly. My father-in-law ( retired continental tech) helped me test the voltage at the dash to make sure it was not getting a full 12 volts which it is not. If my prevous sender opperated the fuel guage the same as the new one I would say you May have something there, but they show different readings.

If I have the arm in the empty position in relaction to the electronic arm at the top of the sender how is bending the float arm going to correct what the elctronic arm is sending to the guage? One sending unit sends an empty signal and one sends a 1/4 tank reading when they both are hanging in a bucket with nothing in the bucket and the arm is not touching the bottom, it is just hanging in mid-air.

I have attached a pic to show how far I have gone to repair and test.

Hey guys, Chad was right I just did not understand what he ment, my bad. Chad by bending the tabs on the bell at the top of the fuel sender it now goes to and empty tank! Thank you Chad for putting up with my lack of knowledge on this mater.
You rock dude!!! Keep up the great work and support!
