fuel pump questions

I have a 65 Scout 80. At some point somebody disconnected the old fuel pump and put an electric one in, I want to go back to the old one so I pulled it out to see what was wrong with it. I have taken it apart and all the seals look good and so does everything else. I dont know what else could be wrong, does any body else?

If the check valves in the fuel pump section are ok then you can aquire a diaphragm and repair it.. Usually the diaphragm goes first.. Screw her back to gether and see if it will pull a vacuum and make pressure. If it will you have a good one to rebuild..
May help to post a photo of it so we can determine what make it is.

It does make a good vacuum and the diaphram and everything else I looked at is fine. So today im going to put it back together and back on to see if it pumps. But if it does why would they have dissconnected it in the first place?

I doubt it will work, but

there is a subset of people who think that an electric fuel pump is superior to a mechanical pump and "solves" "fuel related" problems... So, they put them on every vehicle.
