fuel pump install

hey guys know its been a while but im stumped. 73 345 v8/travellette. trying to put fuel pump in right i was running a elecric but it died, so going back to mech. i pulled fuel pump out and it shows the cam was riding on top of pump arm. not sure if it was in right??? any pointer on getting it back in the corect way? sorry if it sounds like a stupid question. thanks all

The cam rides on top of the pump lever.

Never started with mech fuel pump. It could have been a dud.

So echoing what SB74 wrote, the can/eccentric is above the lever. To ease installation, rotate the engine so the cam is as high as possible and away from the lever. This will minimize the amount of lever movement that you have to fight to install the pump.

It sounds like the pump you removed was correct so If that is how you installed the new one, you should be good.

Might I ask, why you suspect you may have a dud pump? Are you having other issues?

samll update. got fuel pump back in, primed it(via bottle feed) not getting fuel from tank, and discovered my carb seals are shot and i have to rebuild it. pissing gas like crazy.
