Fuel Gauge Issue...

Just put an after market 30 gallon fuel tank in my 73 Scout II. Once I finished the fuel gauge was acting funny. First five gallons went in a didn't even register. Went to fill her up and it went to half way. Seems like I read about the answer to this question before, but I was unable to locate it. Is this a bad ground? The sending unit is brand new so it should be fine. Any help? Ideas??

If you simply re-installed the oem sending unit (nominal 18 gallon tank), it won't have a range of travel compatible with the extra capacity of the 30 gallon tank. The float arm will have to be extended in order to increase it's travel...or ya need to install the correct sender for the increased capacity tank.
 
1st check and make sure the ohm's on the sender are the same range as the gauge. When you take out the sender work it up and down manually and see if it works the gage.

If you need a sender you will need a Ford/chrysler ohm range.

I had issues with mine from day one. I did everything from digital cvr and ran a new ground wire. And nothing seemed to help. (I had the same problem with my stock tank also) and wanted a 33 gallon. So since I had it out I went to 33 gallon.

So I made some brackets and put round gauges in place of the stock. Now I have manual temp. And oil pres. Along with a working fuel and volt meter. And I ran two new wires, sender and ground to the fuel gage.

I guess my problem was somewhere in the bulkhead. But now it works like a champ!
