Front Shackle Brace-advantagen or disadvantage?

I am getting ready to rebuild the spring packs on the front of my 74 scout11, adding aal's, looking at the front shackle I see the brace from one side to the other. I understand this might (is) be the factory answer to a sway bar, is this correct? I assume I should leave it, just wondering if there is a mod concerning it.

Yes, that is the factory sway bar. Works good on the street, can be removed for better flex off-road.

I finished the springs quite a while ago with add-a-leafs from ihon and painted with graphite paint and all is well.
