Sorry Jeff; 74 Scout II Dana 20. It's in my signature. I'm trying to fix all the leaks on the drive train and I'm down to the transfer case. I resealed the rear output shaft and installed a new seal. I've read through several posts but I still don't know how much I have to take apart to replace the gasket on the front output shaft housing. The gasket kit I got does not have the shift shaft seals. I hope this is a little clearer. Danny
No problem. Once upon a time I tried pulling that front cover off without doing anything else, and didn't have much luck. Ended up pulling the shift rails out. I then ended up eliminating the enter locking pin turning it into a twin stick shifting design. Just a thought
If I could afford it I would go for the twin stick setup. I put a new seal in the front output shaft housing and I think I'm going to stop there. I did notice that when I torqued the yoke nut on the front output shaft bound up. It was nice and free before I removed the old seal. I guess I will have to reset the shims on the back of output shaft to get the proper end play.
