Front Dana 27 Swap for Dana 44

Hello folks,

just recently purchased my first Scout and I am looking to do some mods to it. I plan on redoing the rear axle with new seals, bearings and a disk brake conversion.

But the reason for this post is for the front, I would like to swap the front Dana 27 with a Dana 44 to run 35" tires, and a disk brake conversion with hi-steer.

I am wondering what vehicle I should be looking for to get this front axle to make the swap. As in what year, make and model of vehicle. Are jeeps better or chevys?, I fully understand and I am willing to shorten the axle housing and shafts but just need a little guidance. Also I know I need matching gear ratios front and rear.

My rig is a 1971 Scout 800 b
196 4 cyl(probably will be swap for a v6 or v8, maybe a cummins 4bt)
3 speed transmission
Dana 18 transfer case
