Front axel bearing replacement

I've got a 78 Scout with 345 v8 and disc brakes. Front driver axle bearing is bad. Shop wants 2.5 hours labor. This seems a bit high to me but that's with the trustee old "book" says. Lol. Anybody have any suggestions? Thx in advance.

Is that the bearing that mounts inside the spindle? Looks like this

Thank you for your response. That is the spindle bearing and they are going to replace that also. But it's just the regular hub/axle bearings and races that are going to be replaced. Most people I've talked to said it takes about an hour per side to get everything apart and reassembled so I was thinking maybe another half hour or hour to take care of the bearings. Does that sound about right for time? They quote 3 hrs per side. Seems a little high to me

Okay, you mean wheel bearings. Three hours per side does sound high but I think one hour would be pushing it esspecially with the spindle bearing. You have to take it farther apart to get to that than just the wheel bearing. My main concern would be that the shop has done this kind of thing before. I would look for a four-wheel drive or axle shop. I just greased the spindle bearing on mine, it didn't need to be replaced. There's also a spindle bearing seal that should be replaced.

If everything goes without problems, and they clean out all the old grease and put new stuff in, somewhere around 2 hours per side sounds reasonable. It's a pretty messy job. I've found things often don't go as smoothly as anticipated when doing repairs on 40 year old rigs.
