Help any one ?????

My Scout is doing the same thing. I will start it up and then it dies due to flooding. Like the carb is puting out too much fuel or something. I messed with the air/fuel mixture thing and it hellped a little, but it aint fixed. So should I rebuild my carb?? Or what it up with the timing that you are talking about?

My generic answer to all questions such as the "flooding" issue is...rebuild the carb!!!

A carburetor is a maintenance item, with the fuel we've been forced to use over the last several years, the situation where a carburetor sits unused for extended periods kills 'em.

My rule of thumb today...for a vehicle in daily service that is carbureted, the carb should be rebuilt every 2>3 years as long as it hasn't received a dose of "wet" fuel or been mechanically abused in any fashion.

And...if the float(s) in the carb are any form of nitrophyl foam (so-called "plastic"), then they should be replaced with either new nitrophyl floats (in some cases those are all that is available) or preferably brass. And the choke pulloff (vacuum canister) should also be replaced if one is present. In order for the secondaries to operate on any thermoquad or quadrajet, the choke pulloffs must be functional and adjusted.

And, neither poster in this thread has given me any clue as to what carburetor is having issues! Pretty hard to recommend any fix when I don't know whatcha got!

Pouring liquid ratshit, snakeoil, or "seafoam" through the carb don't do shit except make smoke!!! The problem with a crapped carb is inside the "wet" side, not right down the gullet, that is where the air goes. Think about it!!!!
