Well I am going to be taking the 74 Scout on a road trip this week end, 8hr round trip. Longest she's been on yet. I am feeling pretty confident about it. She's running pretty good. Headed down to shenandoah iowa to see family and a class reunion. She might even get in a parade:gringrin:
wish me luck.

Call if ya break down...I May have sumbody in my "network" nearby that will put ya on the bus home and scrap out tha rig for ya! That way it won't count against yore aaa tows for the year!

Eat tha corn, drink, tha corn...but don't put that shit in tha fuel tank dude!!!!

Well we made it back!!! Very little to report, only had 2 issues with the 74 one I fixed down there the other I will have to do in the shop. Apperently the spring steel retainer for the brake caliper broke on the way down and fell out, I had to replace that. I found one at the local GM dealership, no big deal. The other was a leaky output shaft oil seal on the transfer case. I have replaced it about 3 weeks ago and it still leaks, it looks like there is room for stacking 2 seals that should take care of that prob.
Here is an mpg report:
first tank fighting a 20mph head wind at 70mph I got 11.9mpg.
2nd tank, no wind 60mph and town driving I got 14.4mpg.
3rd tank, no wind, 70mph I got 12.8mpg.
Looks like 10mph makes quite a difference.

Had lots of lookers, an people really liked the Scout.

Bus me home!!! Ye of little faith michael:icon_smile:

Typical mileage don't git any better! Yore talking the frontal area/weight of two 2000lb. Sheets of plywood!

Speedeesleeve that yoke or replace with new!

I was pretty happy with 14.4mph. As far as the oil leak it was not the transfer case at all, it was the higher oil pressure with the 20w50. when I put the mechanical oil pressure gauge in I put in a drilled and tapped coupling instead of going to town and buying a tee. When I was running 5w30 I had no leaks put the little higher pressure with the 20w50 found a weak spot and had a steady drip when the motor was running. I used about 1/2 a quart in 250 miles. This has been fixed with the proper fittings. My bad! Should have fixed it right the first time.
