Fan welded to fan clutch?

Hi again-
so I have a quick question about what someone has done in the passed to my Scout. First off, this is my 1973 Scout II with 345. Some one who owned my Scout in the passed has welded the fan to the fan clutch. Is this okay or am I loosing horsepower and fuel mileage? My Scout is somewhat my daily driver and dose okay the way it is now.

Thanks for all the help.

A fan welded to a fan clutch hub? That's strange but certainly not unusual. The fan clutch failed so someone was simply pulling off a redneck fix.

If the system does not vibrate or run out at an odd angle, then leave it alone for now. But I sure would make the entire system correct in the future!

If it's out of balance/true then it will wipe out the water pump bearing/seal set and possibly detach itself and take out the radiator or go through the hood.

Any fuel economy or horsepower issues are insignificant, what is important is that the botch-up doesn't fail.
