Family Scout dilemma

A dilemma or a challenge? I need to seat me, my wife, and my 3 children in our '73 Scout. 1 in a car seat and 1 in a booster seat. I have tried to put a Jeep grand cherokee seat in, since this is what we have as a daily driver, but it does not sit back enough, there is little to no leg room behind the front seats.

I thought maybe the IH community might have a solution or an idea. I do have my '78 traveler that I could swap everything into, but this is something I want to avoid only due to time issues. Any input is appreciated ?

Well mariposa, the problem is your Scout was built during a time which predated most of the pertinent child safety mandates in place today. They're a suitable family vehicle as long as you only have two small children. As a child I remember riding in my Dad's '72 Scout circa 1979 to little league ball games with a half-dozen other players plus all the gear. Dad was the coach. Not only was no one wearing seatbelts, but some of the kids were riding in the rear cargo area on top of the gear bags. Also, Dad's Scout had an auxillary fuel tank inside the cab right behind the rear seat between the wheel wells. Talk about liability! Those were different times for sure. It's a wonder any of us survived.
Iirc, the traveler could actually be outfitted with optional third row seating. That would come in handy for a larger family. Good luck!

I too am building my new Scout to be a family wheeler. I went with a front bench seat. It will be my wife, oldest daughter and myself in the front, then my younger 2 will be in their boosters in the back seat. I think all three will fit in the back without boosters.

I have a geo tracker rear seat that I will be facing rearward in the back of mine for a 3rd row. The seat is self contained and should be an easy fit. Will it be super comfy, no but should be functional. Of course when I started my build I had 3 young boys, now I have 2 teenagers and 1 pre teen all of which are growing like weeds. I have basically given up on the Scout being the family wagon. It's now gonna just be the get away from the kids wagon and I will build or buy a Travelall one day.

That is a good idea about the bench seat up front. I think that my father in-law is gonna take his out for some buckets, in his terra. I am glad to have posted this here... My oldest son will be 16 here in 3 yrs and he can build his own Scout... Thanx for the input ....
