Exhaust manifold removal

I just broke an ear on my drivers side exhaust manifold.
Is there any thing I should know ,prior to removal, that will help prevent snapping off the bolts? Should the manifold be hot?
I'am soaking the bolts with some penetrating spray.
The rig is a 1972 Scout 2 ,304 or 345,4 speed,4x4,center dump manifold.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, gary

Assuming you didn't break the ear off while loosening the bolts you're on the right track with penetrating oil. I don't think heat at a safe level will help...

So the bolts git jammed by rust because the rust actually occupies more space then the metal it was made from.. Natures locktite. :icon_rolleyes:

for me a few hard taps/raps on the bolt head with a hammer in a direction like you were driving a nail will help loosen the rust and the grip it has on the bolt. Thats the best I can suggest other than patience with the penetrating oil.

Yes, I ran up the nut with an air wrench and broke the ear like an idiot. I'm paying for it now waiting 2 days for the part.
I appreciate the advice. I'll keep spraying the penetrating stuff and frequently hard tap like you say for a couple days.
Thanks, gary
