Engine swap

I was wondering if you could give me some input on an engine swap for my 77 Scout II. I am looking for an engine, 5 sp trans, and transfer case. The rig will mostly be used for daily driving. Maybe about 4 times a year off road.

Thanks

Are we keeping the engine IH or something else like Chevy?

The nv4500 5 speed can be adapted to the back of the IH engine followed by a easy to find Jeep Dana 300. Or same combination with a Chevy 350.

I have been digging around under my Scout an found these numbers on the back of my transfer case.
301060-3
457719-092

do you know what the numbers are.

Thanks
chris

Was it on a tag or cast into the tcase? If its on a tag its the IH part# for the tcase. If its cast into the case then its just that - casting numbers.

It is on a tag, that is attached to the tcase. How can I figure out what kind of tcase I have.

Thanks
chris

It can be one of three - either a single speed IH tcase, a Dana 20 or a Dana 300. 99.9% chance it is a Dana 20.

This looked like a good thread to post my question in; im curious to know of a bbc engine swap into a Scout 800. I poked id figure someone has done it. Id do a sbc, but found a free 396 locally and am curious about that. I know engines pretty well, so I know bbc costs more than sbc stuff, etc. Curious to know any gearbox issues with the bbc's and any pro's/con's would be appreciated. Thanks ya'll for your time.

I stuffed a 454 in my 800 that I had. There were no inner fenders so it made it a bit easier. It was a 454, th400, 205 combo.
If you leave the inner fenders I think heat would be an issue.

So reuben, any regrets going that route compared to using a small block? Are you using the IH for rock, mud or something else?

Cool hemi swap. Thats definitely not a bad idea at all... Wonder how easy it would be to find me one of those? Wonder what the parts cost on stuff is for that engine versus the ol' chebby stuff... I will have to look into that.
