engine stalls when drive is engaged

Hi there, my 304V8 engine stalls erratically when I engage the drive and sometimes even stalls once the truck drive! I have "brake failure" light on when contact is on, then disappears when engine runs; could it be related??? thanks for your help;
 
Do you have a 1969 model 1000D truck with a 304 V8 and automatic transmission?

Possibly check the curb idle speed in neutral, then in drive. Use a tachometer.
Report back with the curb idle speed with the engine at normal operating temperature in Neutral and in Drive please (SVP).

It may just need to be adjusted up.

Also, you can add you location and truck info to your "signature" in your profile.
 
thanks! I don't have tachometer but I can increase by chance the idle speed and see what's happen; but the strange thing is that it was working nicely las week, when weather was cold and dry; now , it rains every day and my trucks sleeps outside; also, what about the brake failure light on dashboard?

finally, today we have a nice sun and my truck started in one attempt and did not stall when I moved it back to its location; this means to me that there is an issue with humidity and I might have moisture in carburetor when it rains; I will look for any air intake or screws not properly tighten;
 
Water in the fuel messes with the idle. Drive it more, keep the tank full and a full throttle run through the gears sometimes clears it.
 
High humidity/moisture would indicate a cracked distributor cap or poor fitting cap. Moisture inside the cap..
Check your cap and rotor for proper condition, dirt, carbon tracks, etc.
Which distributor do you have? Delco? Holley? Prestolite? .....points & condenser or electronic ignition?

Your brake light indicates a differential pressure between the front brake circuit and rear brake circuit. (Hydraulic circuits)
Assuming this is the RED brake warning light on the dash.
OR possibly
The parking brake is on or not fully released,...IF your truck has that warning system as that is an option.

You haven't really told us much about your truck features, options or any modifications,
so we are assuming it is factory stock unless you inform us otherwise.

Photos are always helpful especially photos of the areas in question.

You can also add your truck info and your location to your signature so we ll know what vehicle you have and where you= are.

all I know is that my distributor is blue with point and condenser ! my truck appears in my profile but I tried to change "ERIC60" by my truck infos, but I don't see where to edit; anyway my truck is a 1969 IH 1000D 304CI V8 auto gearbox;
 
Go to the top of this page,
Click on your name 'ERIC60'.
Click on 'signature' from the drop down menu.
Add your truck info & location there.

The color (blue) of the distributor cap does not provide any identification of the distributor.
Photos of the distributor can provide identifying info.
 
is the brand name printed or engraved somewhere? I attach this top view but maybe not very usefull;

No, the manufacturers name is not on the distributor.
It looks like a Holley, but Holley makes three types of distributors for IH.
There is a thread for Distributor Identification in the Ignition Tech Forum.
You should review that thread or provide a photo of the entire exposed distributor. (side views)
Also, I would need a photo of the interior of the distributor with the cap removed and not blocking the view of the interior.
All this is covered in numerous threads in the Ignition Tech Forum.
