That is the Holley "gold box" electronic ignition system.
It is the factory ignition for '75 - '76 - '77 vintage IH scouts.
There are numerous threads on this ignition system in this forum.
Check the "sticky" threads above for ignition upgrades.
You have several options.
How much do you want to spend and how mechanically inclined are you?
There is one upgrade you can build yourself with off-the-shelf parts and the current distributor.

Thanks for the info
I am looking to just replace the coil and electronic ignition , and pick up with out replacing the distributer looking for reliability, not high performance as my engine is stock, not built, ant suggestions
thanks for your time

Maintaining the stock ignition is certainly one option, I did the same for years myself.

The ignition coil & gold box are readily available at auto parts stores as are the cap & rotor.

The pick-up in the dizzy is difficult to locate.

Ask the guys at IHPA for it, maybe they have a source.

One thing to be aware of with these old electronic ignition systems, and the gold box in particular, do not leave the ignition key in the 'run' position unless the engine is running. Otherwise, the gold box heats up and an internal resistor burns out. Result, no ignition or very erratic ignition.

Thanks I just ordered pertonix system with coil that should fix it
I have left ignition on while tracing wires , and based on what you said that probably caused eventual failure

thanks a lot for your help
