El Cheapo Brighter Headlights

I found a relay setup on amazon for $20 that allowed me to easily rewire some relays into the headlights.
Sending 12v straight to the head lights helps a bit, better than 12 v coming thru the 16-18 gauge wires to power the lights.

It comes with sockets to plug/replace the original headlight sockets. Here is the product:

liked your post. Need some info: where are you "splicing" in the relays? at the firewall? after the bulkhead connector? can you post some pics?

I have a 77 SII and have the "dim" light issue as well. Thanks in advance.

I mounted the relays between my battery and the firewall, and used the wires that used to go to the headlights to power the coils of the relays. Still need to make sure the pins on the bulkhead under the master cylinder are relatively clean. If the relays and their connectors aren't waterproof, you also want to mount them someplace that stays dry.

I made an L bracket to mount the relays on. One screw at the top to the right of the socket holds it in place, and the coils are also grounded there. Makes it easy to work on without pulling the battery out.The kep-nuts on the bottom hold two little rubber feet to keep things from rattling. I just pulled the wires that used to power the low and high beams back through the front bulkhead (radiator mount?) to power the relay coils. You will need to get a 12 volt 10 or 12 gauge wire from the battery down to the two relay commons. I have a set of fog lights thus the three relays.

ok, so:

the wires that actually plug into the back of the headlight (the low beam and high beam wires) , you pulled them, plugged them into the relay, and then from the relay you used 10 ga. wire to the space in the headlight connector where the wire you pulled went, right?

The 12VDC wires that that used to go to the headlights go to one side of the coil contacts on the relays to energize them, the other side of the relay coils go to ground. The 12 or 10 gauge wire from the battery goes to the common contacts on the relays, can use one wire from the battery and jumper the two common contacts on the relays together with it. The normally open (NO) contacts on the relays go to the headlights where the original 12VDC wires used to go, one relay to the low beam terminal on the headlights, and one relay to the high beam terminal on the headlights. The wires from the relays to the headlight can be 14 or 16 gauge. If I recall the wires that originally powered the hi and low beams are 18 gauge, and both go to the driver side head light, and then get jumpered over to the passenger side headlight so the lights are wired in parallel.
