DUI 4 pin module

I was wondering if anyone else has run into
this issue. I got two or three starts on a new four pin module and then no spark. I burned out the first one before the Scout even fired up. I have stock wiring on a 76 Scout 2.

Thanks

Ok. So I changed out the module again and it started up. Now I need to see how many starts I get.

Be sure you use the dialectric grease under the module. It acts as a heat-sink to keep the module cool.
Most modules come with a small packet of grease inside the box. If not, then the auto parts store will have some.
Also. It is cheap and easy to carry a spare module in the glove box.

Yes I did use the grease. And I was told to go to radio shack to get some heat sink paste that works better. I plan on having an extra module on hand if not two.
Thanks for the reply

Ok so I got 1 start on the new module. At this rate I need to buy stock in the module company.

Sorry for the slow response. Here are the pics. Not much to see the power for the distributer is taken from the decelerater circuit. As the normal two plugs that went to the gold box did not show power. But I think I am going to put in a relay and a fusable link and go strait from the battery. I am not sure if I am loosing power on the circuit I am on now. Sorry the pics will come later I can't figure out how to load them from my phone

I know nothing about dui install, but what you describe (wiring) does not make any sense.

You need to search for a thread on dui install (here or elsewhere) and find the correct way to wire it. Probably why you are burning out modules...

Ok so I did like dui recomends and ran the feed wire from the starter silenoidto a relay then to the distributer and got 1 start then another blown module. I am thinking the distributer is cursed. I have a email in to the dui guys about this. The pics are of the old set up I will try to get some pics of the relay tomorrow.

So I got two new modules one start. Dui thinks its my my alternator but I have full voltage out of it and this new one no spark out the gate. But I do have a really nice 1957 IH m1 garand and I May use it to fix this dui unit.:incazzato:

Have you installed a diode in the alternator wiring?

It's common to install one in the small gauge exciter wire. Especially after any type of upgrades that we do to these old rigs. I recently just read another tech forum about a very similar install as yours and the diode was the cure for the engine run-on when key turned off.

I kinda agree that sumfin aint hooked up right. I'm kinda of the mind set that that deceleration curcuit might be causing your headaches and additional expense

I have a dui in my 73' 345 s2, it was used when I got it and had a dead 4 pin module. I replaced the module and it runs fine every time now. I did not look at an instruction manual for the install at all.... However I have not burned up my cheap chinese module. I have the power for my dui coming from the key'd ignition and tied into the electric choke for my 1406 edle. Maybe this isnt the way to do it but it works fine for me. I have over 50 starts on it(would have more but im doing a 727 reseal). I have heard that coil in cap distributors burn out the module if they get power when the truck is off and they are not discharging, im not 100% if thats true or not but I took that into consideration when I did my install.

Thanks for the replies, I set up the relay wrong this last try. Now I have power from the starter on a fusable link to the high power input of the relay and have the decelerater circuit on the low end power switch side of the relay and to ground (that is the part I messed up) on the other side of the low end power. And full power to the distributer from the high power output side of the relay. So far I have got three starts now I can stand down the garand.:icon_xd:
