drive shaft question

I am replacing the yoke on the front drive shaft of my '67 Scout. I thought that it was going to be easy, but it has proven to be nettlesome. The manual says very little about "propeller shafts" only that you should not disassemble them because they are balanced at the factory. Is this so? Will putting this new yoke on my front drive shaft create some kind of vibration because of lack of balance?

Second problem: I know that the two yokes on the shaft should be exactly aligned with each other. However, I can't do this because the coarse splines (16) on the shaft do not match up to produce an exact alignment of the two yokes. It is either slightly out of alignment to the one side or the other. The size of the splines makes a one notch changed, either way, miss the "top dead center" position. Is it o.k. For the yokes to have a very slight misalignment? I thinking it is because this is how is was before I took it apart. What do you think?

Well they're really supposed to be aligned perfectly,if it was balanced, there will be a little rectangular piece of metal welded or soldered to the yoke.if its not aligned perfectly, then I'd say you have the wrong part ? Post up some pics of it.Jeff ( pics tell alot ! )

The old yoke (rock damage) and the replacement yoke appear to be identical, and have thee same fit. There are no soldered weights. Pineneedle
