door lock and key?

Anyone know where I can pick up a door lock and key set for my 73 Travelall. It didn't come with one..

You have an ignition key?

I think you can get new door locks from light line via ihon...

You can take the new cylinders to a locksmith and they can "match" them to your current ignition key.

The other question is -- are you missing any of the pieces inside the door?

I do have a key but its an aftermarket one from carquest that isn't IH style. And I have not opened up the door to look inside yet. I should probably do that.. Ill take a look at the light line parts. Thanks

I know ihon sells the keys and lock cilynders for the scouts. But not sure if he has them for the t-all's. Might give them a call and find out.

Actually, before you open up the inside of the door:

is the "lock area" on your t/a "bare metal"?

Or, does it have the stainless steel ring / "bright trim" still there?

On my t/a, (just) the lock cylinder will sometimes start to come out when I unlock it. I just slide it back in...

The replacement lock cylinder is just that -- so if you are missing more pieces they would have to come from a junk yard / parts vehicle. Assume the pickups and t/a are the same.

If the stainless steel trim is there, I would think that you could just slide the new cylinder in and it would work.

Are those the ones with the extra long shaft? If so, I think I have a set. I'd have to look but I think that they are the complete assembly, not just the cylinder.

Re key not IH style...

The lock cylinders are GM spec, so

any key blank for the correct GM years will work.

I have a few sets for Scout iis dont know if theay will work for ya

Depends - seems to be two "versions" for Scout II

"early" / before 9/77 and "late" / after 9/77

according to parts listing "early" should work on t/a...

An "issue" with used lock cylinders will be if a locksmith can "modify" them to work with his existing ignition key.

Not that hard to match your existing key to the 'new' locks. Pull the lock cylinder out of the lock by pushing a pin into the little hole with any key in place then slide the cylinder out.
With your key in the cylinder, note how some of the keepers stick out? File them off or remove them entirely. Put the cylinder back in and your key will work the lock.

But my current ignition key will not work in a IH lock cylinder. All I need is a lock cylinder and I can re-key it myself.. I just want to be able to lock my stuff up..

Do not understand / confused???

Isn't your ignition switch the original? Or, has the po jury-rigged it?

Btw, the "wind wings" on a t/a or pickup do not "lock".

Anyone with a slim blade screwdriver can be in your t/a in 2 seconds... If they notice...

The ignition switch is in the original spot on the dash and I bought it from carquest. The original harness pluged right in to the switch but it has a gas cap style key that won't work with a door lock.. I know the wing windows can be broken into but I just want to be able to lock my driver door.. And the key kit fron Travelall parts is a little pricey for me..

Ok, I misunderstood. I thought you had a replacement key - not a universal replacement ignition switch.

Light line has a replacement lock cylinder or a replacement lock cylinder with a key.

Call Jeff / ihon and see how much to order one (now I am assuming the passenger side works / locks and has a key...)

fwiw, the key kit that you reference will not work for a 73 t/a - ignition key cylinder is for 74 - 75 t/a (and Scout iis).

And, Jeff has the same key kit listed in his online store for a cheaper price.
