Deep pan for the 727?

Hi guys.

Any opinion on the deep pans for the torqueflight? It looks like you can get a steel one with a plug for a reasonable amount.

I haven't seen one on a Scout. I have a 74 s2. Do they hang too low?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I had problems with mine when I wheeled with it on. My driveshaft would hit the corner when I compressed the front suspension. Im running a spring over, shackle reversal and a long travel driveshaft. A stock set up might work out.

Thanks castle.

That's the same setup I want to run. That's exactly the the info I needed to hear.

Did you go back to stock without any problems.

Once I put the old pan back on it was all good. You'll have to trim a small portion of the metal lip around the outside of the pan to allow for the cv joint if you go that way. About an inch in the passenger's side corner and its just the lip. Its a tight fit but I have never had a problem. Hope that helps.

My opinion...the "deep" transmission pans are a total waste of cash. These transmissions do not "overheat" unless improperly serviced and abused. The operating temperature of the actual lubricant will always remain the same

proper transmission oil temperature is a nominal 180f and will increase when the entire vehicle encounters a significant increase in "load" for a period of time. Once the load is reduced, lubricant temperature comes right back down, same as for engine oil and coolant temperatures.

I'd never run a deep pan on any of my personal vehicles.

A type of "deep" pan is useable on some drag racing versions of these transmissions simply because of the extreme movement of oil under the heavy acceleration loads for a very short period of time.
