if you have been to the desert, then you know what it’s all about. Join our group of experienced and knowledgeable iher’s for a whole week of death valley wheeling and exploring. If you have never tried desert four wheeling, then you are in for an experience of a lifetime. You’ll either love it or hate it. There are no mild opinions on our desert.

Death valley in March is a land of extremes. Cold and frosty in the morning and after sundown; hot during the day. Dead calm or hang-on-tight winds blowing sand through your clothes. It can rain or even snow. The coloring of the stark landscape changes hourly. The plants and the critters are tenacious. The trails are rife with history and rocks.

Death valley is a harsh and dramatic landscape, filled with history and legend. The opportunity to step back in time is boundless as you retrace the epic story of survival in 1849. Standing in the vastness of the valley floor, it is easy to understand the despair those pioneers felt when confronting the absolutely inhospitable valley without a clue to its perils or obstacles.

they will be out there out there from 3/9 through 3/11 as they spend the week prerunning some, or all, the trails the group will be doing.
the park has closed the extreme trails.
we will have runs from blacktop to moderate offroad.
the runs can be long so carry enough fuel.
no alcohol on trail runs and no firearms in the park.

Must have:

water – one gallon per person, per day. In the desert, more is better.
jerry cans - plenty of gas

the minimum
seat belts for each passenger
spare tire. Maybe 2
roll bar or factory hardtop
battery secured.
fire extinguisher
tow strap
adequate attachments points front and rear – receiver, tow hook d ring
hilift jack
functional parking brake or microlock
check the cooling system
bring fuel additive, as the fuel out there is not the best sometimes.

And last, by not least, if someone is able comply with a small request:

You forgot my favorite death valley picture.
110 Towns pass 4500 ft.jpg
It serves as reminder to be prepared for everything in death valley, even snow.

New on my part:
some wiring and some revamping of equipment mounting on the pig hunter Scout.
In process: body bushings - poly with homemade stall mat rubber on top of the poly.
Add a long leaf in each spring pack with new center bolts and new bushings.

Notes and calls from all over. We May have a large group and certaily will have a fine group! Many intend to come out for the entire week.

Hey doc,

change my "I'm going" to "maybe". Karen is having a hip revision surgery in January, so my chances of going to dv are now officially "iffy".

Well, nate, we have never had a tour of dv without someone breaking something! I will be hauling my Scout out there on the car hauler and it would not be the first time that someone drove my Scout back while I hauled their broken truck on the trailer.

Ready to go! [almost].

Weather: warm and windy. Mid 80s with 33 mph wind. Could be 30 and calm the next day though.

Gas there is expensive. Carry what you can in jerry cans and buy at the cheap spots before you get there.

Carry lots of water. Humidity can be 1%. Dehydration happens in hours. Drink up!

Gas in shafter w of bakersfield is $4.09 at the arco (Thursday March 8)
gas in bishop is $4.35

gas in independence on rte 395 is $4.30
