dash wire routing

I have a 74 Scout II, the interior is completly gutted, and I am looking for the correct way to route wires under the dash.
Any pics or diagrams that May be helpful. It looked like a bowl of spaghetti when I ripped everything out.

Especially around the steering column, does the harness go above or below the column?

Where does the fuse block mount to?
Also the long elec. Connector on the steering column seems to small for the bracket? Its is currently tie wrapped to column.

Thanks

tony

Hi tony. You really need to have a factory service manual at your disposal if you're going to have any success in this project. There aren't any step-by-step, paint by numbers series of pics that I know of which would be pertinent to what you're facing. Most folks who have the dash ripped apart to expose the wiring are proceeding with a complete rewire utilizing a universal wiring kit such as a kwikwire available from the IHPA store. Realizing that the fsm constitutes a financial investment (although a very worthwhile one) the best I can do is point you in the direction of the stickied schematic library thread found near the top of this electrical tech section. There are some pdf files there which May be of some help to you. Your depiction of how the igntion switch is being secured to the steering column sounds very fishy. I'd like to see a well focused pic of that if possible. Previous owners (po's) can be very creative with their application of barnyard and backalley fixifications. That's exactly what this item sounds like. There's no way that zip ties are going to hold a saginaw column mounted ignition switch securely enough to function properly.

I agree with scoutboy, the factory wiring is gunna be pretty krispy by now. I'm in the process of putting one together and both harnesses are pretty beat, and I will just end up starting over with a new aftermarket one.

To answer your question, the fuse box mounts to the left of the steering to the bottom dash brace, then the harness goes over the steering column and is ziptied to the 2 tabs that are on the dash, on either side of the column.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

First of all, thanks for your help!

I have ordered the factory manual and have decided to rewire.

I posted two pics of the wire connector that seems to small for the holder, maybe its broke or missing something or I am looking at it wrong.

Thanks again

The delco remy lettering goes towards the steering column and there are actually notches in either end of the connector where the folded over metal at either end of the stationary steel clip slide into. You kind of need to bow the connector slightly to get it to slide in (on mine at least).
