Dana 60 U-Bolts

I have a '77 Scout II tera, and I recently picked up a rear dodge Dana 60, and Ford f-150 leaf springs. . . Because I'm a cheapskate I went to company is called john's spring service and ornamental iron, inc. In reno, that makes u-bolts on demand,and the u-bolts are about 5/8" x 3 1/16" x 7 1/2" for $12.40 each. Now I'm wondering if those are big enough or not. . .

Most places sell 5/8"

Well I noticed today that the bottom of the u is 3 1/16" but it narrows toward the top. Any ideas how to pull it apart, since the shop had a heavy duty machine press the bolts into a u shape. . .

Grab one side with one hand and the other side with the other, pull.
