Hi guys,
as you May remember I rebuilt a tcase for my son's Scout. It had a Scout shift lever on it, so it almost certainly came out of a Scout, just don't know what year.
Anyway, I brought the case and the Scout to the transmission shop and asked them to repair the (727) transmission and please swap the cases.
It's all working fine except that the proprietor told me that the speedo gear going from the output shaft to the little gearbox was binding on gear on the output shaft, the spiral looking gear. I opened the case they just pulled out and the spiral gear looks the same which is no guarantee of course.
Is it possible for the spiral gears to vary? The gear has an elliptical cross section, I suppose if I got some spacer wrong the outermost diameter of the spiral gear could be engaging the speedo gear when one acttuall doesn't want this.
Any thoughts?
Harry
