D44 80 to 800 Axle Swap

I have a 1964 Scout 80 4x4 with a 196, it's a spring over with D44 axles and 33" tires and 4 wheel disk brakes. I just purchased a 1971 800B with a 304, 4x4 in perfect condition.

The question I have, what if anything is different between the two if I swap the D44's out of the 80 into the 800. The D44 axles were cutdown to the same width as the original 27's on the 80. I think the D44's would be better used behind the 304 instead of the 196. I don't know what gears are in them, I also don't know what would be best suited for the 304. The 80 has been rebuilt, redone, painted new everything except for the drivelines, it has none. I was planning on purchasing new CPT drivelines for it when the 800 came for sale.

Another question, could the drivelines from the 800 be used on the 80? Any thoughts or comments are welcome. The 80 is a gift for my son, he's 12 and has been working on it with me for a few years. I'm not sure a SOA would be best for his first rig, but I don't think he'll be getting any speeding tickets in it either way.

Thanks

The axles should swap over just fine. You will need to come up with a custom draglink which IH Parts america can help you out with. The engine location is different between a 4cyl powered Scout and a V8 powered one so no the drivehshafts will not be the correct length.

Thanks Jeff,

I was hoping to save a few dollars. What info do you need for the custom draglink?
