Crush Sleeve

Scout SC

Hi folks, been lurking the boards for a long time and finally registered. Feels pretty good. I've got a '75 Scout ll with a 345 that is mostly stock. Anyway, I am in the middle of replacing my pinion gear. Everything is out and cleaned up but when I went to the parts store to get a crush sleeve for an International Dana 44, I found out that it is not as easy as I thought it might be. The 4 wheel drive shop in town was closed by the time I needed this part and it is also closed today so I am stopped at the moment. My questions are, can I use a crush sleeve for a GM Dana 44 and feel good about it or is it International specific? And, all I found on the pinion gear I pulled out was a bunch of spacers (unless the sleeve is still crammed in the housing which I will find out today) so I am wondering if one is even needed (I have encountered some pretty funky work arounds from the previous owner). I would appreciate any feedback on this so I can put together a good plan of attack for the upcoming week. Thanks for any suggestions. Love the site. Thanks.

If in fact, the axle is a true d44 made for the Scout II, then it does not use a crush sleeve.

Very cool. Thanks for the reply. That would explain a lot. Judging by the date stamp on the shaft, it looked like the original. Looks like I am back in business. Thanks again.
