Cracked Scout 800 Transfer Case

I have a 65 Scout 800 and discovered that the transfer case has a crack across the top rear portion of it.
Can I just JB Weld the crack to keep the fluid in or do I need to have it brazed or welded?
In addition, should I be concerned with stress on the transfer case breaking it open due to the crack if I elect to just seal the crack or are these things pretty tough?

Free in Tennessee!

is the crack on the tail shaft ? if so you could replace the tail shaft, if that is out of the question. i would have it some how welded if it was in my scout.
yes the dana 18 and dana 20 are tough but a crack will only grow and be a problem when you least want it to.

Thank for the feedback. I have tracked down another Dana 20 for a reasonable price, $100. Apparently this transfer case was used in a variety of 4x4s (Jeeps, IHC's and Fords) in that era and is fairly common. :)

Picked up one from a 72 Scout 2. Came with a 727 AT attached. Only difference that we could see is the shifter. Single lever instead of two. Bollted right up to the three speed.
Thanks for all the feedback, love the forum!

Please note that the majority of Scout II Dana 20 transfer cases had a different pitch in the gear set then their early counterparts. Right around 1971/72 Dana switched the gear pitch. Sounds like you used your original scout 800 bull gear with the newer Dana 20? If you don't hear a whining sound from the transfer case, then you should be good to go. But if you do, then you need to source a later bull gear meant for manual transmissions, or put the gears from your older transfer case into the case of the newer Dana 20. Hope that all makes sense.
