couple of shift problems

Had trans rebuilt in my 78 Scout II just got it running and it seems like there is no power , it shifts too early and when cruising if you floor it it wont downshift it just stays in third , but it will downshift while slowing down. I also replaced the rear main seal but did not seal the bolts and now it is pissing oil all over the place , so I guess the trans has to come back out. It also seems like the throttle has a very short throw to it , unfortunately I purchased this truck with a trans problem and only drove it twice before I took it apart so I dont know how its supposed to run. It has a rochester 4bl I think and the linkage was binding when I got it and I tried to fix it but not sure if I did it correctly any info would be helpfull thanks

This thread will get moved to a more appropriate category as your issues have nothing to do with the transfer case.
The q-jet carb is not original to any Scout and could account for some throttle linkage incongruity, although they are a popular swaperoo choice. Can wide open throttle (wot) be achieved freely and easily by manually actuating the throttle lever at the carb? If you can't do that, then there's no way it will happen when you step on the loud pedal. If that checks out, then closely examine the accelerator pedal arm for fatigued metal at the pivot point. These arms were made from thin gauge metal and are extremely failure prone after so many years of service. If the pedal arm is tweaked, there's no way you're going to achieve wot from inside the cab.

Now for the trans...is the kick down rod present and connected at both the transmission and at the throttle linkage? This is an critical piece to the proper function and longevity of what I'm assuming is the stock torqueflite 727 automatic transmission. If it is present and connected, then the thing is out of adjustment. Lengthening the shaft by twisting the threaded clevis counter-clockwise will extend the duration between shifts.

Thanks for the reply, but I just had shoulder surgery today so it will take some time for me to get back on this thing

No shit! Well lemme tall ya sumthin...severe multiple rt shoulder dislocations plus bankart lesion procedure 12/31/09. So brother, believe me when I say to you, I feel your pain!!! You take it easy and pop an o'codone for me. We'll catch ya on the flip side. It's a long road, but there is life after rehab. Hang in there!
