Cooling System 101

Great job chuck!

You'll sleep much better now knowing that maintenance chore is in the bag!

Actually, while your internals are plenty nastee, they are not all that bad...comparatively-speaking! And it's obvious that the flushing treatment did it's job within limits for this greatly toned down stuff we are limited to today due to the environmental restrictions.

That "blackish" tone ya see inside the tstat housing along with the kinda greenish scum/residue is the results of what that flush chemical resulted in.

Even with the good chemicals of years past, you could never eliminate all the scale, only way to do that was have the radiator douched by a pro, along with all the plumbing. But I bet when you find that "right" radiator shop locally, the boyz will be pissin' and moanin' about how they can't use the good stuff anymore!

Forget the hype regarding "permanent" anti-freeze. Drain/flush the system every two years and eventually you will find it stays real clean internally. Ya won't need to do all the rubber again for a long time, and no need in the future to break into the plumbing loop! Now you know whatcha got to work with.

Now that you are turning into a real wrench, you will find many more areas that need attention, that is why this shit is a project and not transportation!

Keep goin'...ya got at least two more years of "hobby-time" to keep ya bizee!

Two years, you're funny. As my wife says, there's always something. But that's what I like about it. Unfortunately, I've got a new kid on the way and the family will likely move back to the mainland this summer, so projects are on hold. I'll just keep fighting the rust battle and hope to keep up between now and then.

The stop leak is holding strong. I wanted to complete the thread with a couple finished photos.
