Cooling problems

Have the same problem in my 71 800 b. Changed the cap and that helped some. It would be great if someone could post where the overflow tank goes. I also own a 71 800B for parts but it came with no engine so I have nothing to go on. Thanks for any help. Either post it or pm to let me know it is posted.

To the person did you solve your problem?

Re: Coolant Overflow

Viggidy,
welcome to ihon hope you get your rig all fixed up.

So we can properly diagnose and help you out, lets move this to its own thread. Hope you don't mind because so many times when a member adds on to an existing and extinct thread, the new request for help gets lost.

My final resolution was that my rear freeze plugs were shot. The only reason that they weren't leaking all the fluid out was that there was so much corrosion it was acting like a plug. It was allowing pressure to escape the system causing the boil over.

Replacing the freeze plugs and a proper cap along with a full flush fixed it up right.

I just purchased an overflow tank from the local parts shop and mounted it up on the driver's side next to the radiator.

My overflow is setup to be a catch tank not a closed system with a return. The overflow tank does not return into the radiator it just catches in the rare event that it should overflow. Now that the cooling system is sealed it doesn't leak so the overflow is just a precaution since temps can run 100+ here.
