Hi guys,

I have a Scout II with a 345 engine in it. I currently run a 350 cfm holly and looking for an upgrade. I hav been told that a 465 cfm 4 bbl that has a 4 to 2 bbl adaptor on a 2bbl manifold is a good option or a 500 cfm 2bbl with a 1 inch riser plate? My truck is we up for long distance off-road trips nd I am also wanting to put a cam in the same time. If any one has any experiences with either of these set ups I would love to hear what you think, or if you have any other ideas.

Thanks

What do you believe is wrong with your present carb? Just that it isn't a 4bbl? What specifically do you expect to gain by swapping to something else? If your present carb is a list 0-7448, and it is in a proper state of tune, neither of your proposed swaps would qualify as an upgrade, most especially the 4bbl + adapter option. Spending boucoup bucks on some unknown 4bbl and not being able to engage the secondaries would be a huge waste. The Holley list 4412 500 cfm model is designed and calibrated for high performance applications, such as circle track race cars with engines running at or near wide open throttle for a few laps at a time, then coasted into the pits and shut down. It is too fat across the board for your slow revving 345.

For what its worth,
I run a edelbrock 1400 which is a 600 cfm 4bbl.

Its a great carb and my 345 runs fine with it. However I cant tell any difference from the old 2bbl.

If I had to do it over again, I would try a motor craft 2bbl and see if it 4 wheeled better…..
