Is it possible to go from a 4150 that is on a 74 392 and swap it for a 2 barrel without changing the intake manifold, the 4 barrel thats on it is original and has been rebuilt several times according to the original owner who bought it new,and if so do you have any idea witch one would be best,

Do not think a 2 bbl on a 4bbl manifold would work well at all.

Do not know why you would want to try it -- other than you have a 2 bbl laying around.

Generally, the replacement is a Holley 4bbl (80459s?) or a square bore edelbrock.

Oops, I am making an assumption that a 74 392 still has a squarebore manifold - I know 73 is a squarebore.

Call ihpartsamercia to see what they have / recommend.

Yup, see no point. The right jetting and adjustments on a good 4bbl will give better mileage and over all performance.

Thanks for the advice im going to go with a new 4 barrel, the one on it is just plain worn out ( stripped out screws and so on ) so im giving the store a call and order one

Do a search here on carb sizing. I doubt you want more than a 500cfm on that critter. I used the summit calculator for my 345, and am putting a 400 Holley on it.

The IH 4150 is rated at 390cfm, which is adequate for an engine that is "all in" by 4k rpms. Any square bore offering between 4-500 cfm with vacuum secondaries will be fine.
