I hope that I can re-establish comms with you and the others here. I am hoping that you recall me I had a IH mentor named cliff who was helping me...well he has passed away but that is for another email. I first started with a 72 sii that you and I were emailing threads about my jacked up electrical system and the no-kickdown issues.
Anyway onto current issues
I have aquired from cliff's estate a 68 800. I brought it home and my daughter has taken a liking to it how can I say no?
Need clearification on the carb and the dizzy if you can please.
What do I need to do?
Engine is 152 cid I would like to get this running. Rats ate the ignition wires.... Replaced them, all fluids replaced, filters replaced ,battery replaced, gauges some have been and some are good. Thanks for your time
sii update: thanksgiving last year I woke up and decided to take the body off and have the po virused SOA corrected professionaly thats been done ... Now kinda working on her when I got the time and $. I have time before the kid starts driving but hey she wants to drive the 800.

Wow Todd! I wondered what had happened to ya! I've had so many issues with computers and cell phones over the last several months I think you May have got caught in that time when nearly everyone was falling into the spamcan???

Anyway, let's start from scratch now about this rig!

I enlarged your pics, the distributor I see is a Holley "straight point" unit. The points mount to a sliding plastic insulator block which is connected to the vacuum advance arm. All parts for those are available along with a pertronix conversion also. Those distributors use a dwell spec of 50>52* so don't be confused by the references you see around here regarding the dwell spec for the delco distributor for the 152/196 app which uses a dwell factor of 72>74*.

The straight point Holley distributor was also used in many sv engine apps in the early days, same point/condenser set, slight difference in advance curve, and of course a different cap.

The carb is the typical Holley 1904, the sticker I can see on the carb bowl indicates it's a tomco reman mixer from some point in time. Tomco went down the tube several years back, but their products are still on the shelf in many auto parts warehouses.

Biggest issue I see with the s80/s80 rigs is fuel system contamination from the tank(s) forward. Everything that sees liquid will need to be cleaned, be sure to put a fuel filter on the inlet side of the fuel pump and another one in front of the carb. Also, the vacuum wiper systems most all have leak issues which can affect engine idle quality, the vacuum pump mounted on top of the fuel pump can "mask" that problem though so ya have to bypass it to do engine tuning.

So what's the next step??

We're still on the road, we'll be leaving ihon today and May have intermittent communications until we get back home on Sunday.

thanks for the response.... Yea I might have gotten caught up in the crash... Alot of things have changed and it has been awhile since I was on.
Fuel tanks have been removed as was the radiator which where cleaned boiled at the shop and repairs made and systems checked. One of the last things I did with cliff on this rig. I have removed the carb and pump. I see the carb was metal to metal no gasket gasket I got is the wrong one. I removed all of the rubber fuel lines and the fuel line on driver's side. Cliff had installed a electric fuel pump and ran it to the mechanical fuel pump not sure why and there was no fuel psi gauge inline or a filter. I have since replaced the lines and added one before the electric pump and plans for one before the carb.
Thanks for the response and help...have a safe trip
