I have a 1972 Travelall. 392 auto 2wd. The front has lockheed drums. I was wondering if converting to disc would help to stop better. Or are the lockheeds as good as a disc. I plan on pulling a travel trailer is why I ask. If it can be done where would I source the parts from. Thanks for the help

I'll just comment on lockheed brakes. My neighbor, (look up Mike mayben and check his stuff in brake tech), had them on his pick-up. From what he's said, they are rare as hen's teeth. It was even impossible to get shoes so he had his relined. Hang on to what you have, even after a conversion. Good drums could be valuable to a very needy owner down the road.

I have a 72 Travelall and about 5-6 years ago I bought new hoses drums wheel cylinders and hardware. The drums were around 230.00 for the pair I found a set of shoes on rock auto (last set is what the add said for 15.00.

I cannot help you with the conversion but drums provided they are maintained and in adjustment work well for stopping a rig that goes over 4500 lbs. I don't think you will have any problems provided your trailer has brakes that work

The street rod mfg co. Offers a disc brake kit for the beam axle. They offer the rotors and caliper brackets as a kit and then provide part numbers for the calipers, etc.
