can anyone refer a cheap source for carrier bearings

I'm not sure what axle you're working on, but I'm sure Jeff or someone at ihparts could get them for you. I'm not sure I would want to use "cheap" bearings. With the time it takes to change those bearings I used timken bearings. I don't want to have to do it again!

You have to ask yourself, do you have enough time to do it right or to do it twice.

Using cheap stuff is no savings in the long run.

At my local parts place you are looking at $13/per for cheap, $21/per for national, and about $25/per for timken.

To me it is not worth it to go too cheap on bearings like this. What does a ring and pinion set cost $250? How much labor is involed to replace one?

"cheap" bearings (made in china) will never last as long as a quality bearing, and often self destruct in short order.
A guy that knows something about bearings once told me " the chinese have a lot to learn about metallurgy".
Quality bearings are made from quality materials.

I agree with useing timkins but I dont have any money and I have two weeks left in storage so im riggin this rig
I just traded spider gears out of another carrier I got off a guy from thehamb
cleaned as much of shrapnel out of pumpkin that I could and hope the old bearings will hold up till I get some dough
it has 4.09 in rear id like to change possibly to a more free way friendly gearing in the near future so it will be comming anyways

Do you have money to do the same job twice? Do you have "time" to do the same job twice, or more?

Sorry for being blunt. This topic kind of reminds me of working with a friend of mine on his Scout. And I ask him that same question. But, more often than not, those cheap parts will cost you more in the long run. I have seen it happen all too often. Happened to me many years ago, once or twice. Lived and learned.

Btw - my friends Scout has a chipped, half way gone, tooth on the ring gear in the rear end. He was all talking about just simply swapping the carrier diff. With out doing anything else. No new bearings on top of possible miss matched ring gear to pinion gear equals possible disaster.

I dont know why every one complains about changing out ring and pinions or carrier diffs axle etc....
It took a dayto swap out ring& spider gears tops and thats stopping for beer breaks
this vehicle has to be road worthy period
not going off road or taking long trips yet
when I say ive got no money let me emphasize
unemployed no money
time got a bit
impossible to find parts for these things in cal where I live(thanks to cash for clunkers assholes)
but I can find parts from something else and make them work
learned that growing up on farm working on tractors and owning a shit load of volkswagens
work in the dirt
get shit done
yknow ill change shit out 12 times if I have to to get it right doesnt bother me
plus parts stores dont know what a car older then the 80s is about which makes it even harder

Im not for or against bearings from china. In situations where things are used infrequently or are not in a demanding enviroment they are fine... If you have to have the best price possible for a particular bearing number.
The web is your friend. Cross the oem bearing on one of the many online utilities and search till you go blind... There are so many options it's crazy.... In the end buyer beware... :icon_eek:

Did you 'setup' the gears or just swap parts?
Dial indicator - magnetic base - little inch pound torque wrench - setup bearing or carrier bearing puller - press -gear marking compound - etc - etc -etc.

Swapping parts is easy - doing it right takes hours and hours and almost an artistic skill.

whats triple xxx mean
is there a porn that I need to watch or something

Thats funny s*** I have no idea where that came from, I originally responded and said try xxx.xxxi bought timken bearings from there.

That is funny . The xxx is where a moderator edited out the reference you made to another vendor... Read the form rules if you have any difficulty understanding the why?
