Cam break in procedure

Reposting to the proper location, as this is not a product question anymore. For the experienced IH engine builders out there, what is your personal go to procedure for a cam break in? I know in higher performance engines, you have to install lighter valve springs, then change back after break in. I ruined a Comp cam in a 345 a couple years ago during break in. I'm pretty sure this was due to crappy quality Melling lifters. Back in the 90's, I would do cam break ins on small block Chevy's and Ford's using the stock valve springs, but this ain't the 90's no more and I don't want to take any chances on ruining the cam when I rebuild my 345 in my pickup. I will be using a new stock cam or possibly a Isky 190156.

Follow standard procedure with a high zddp oil and assembly lube.

Best would be on a test stand with a known 100% working carb with a known 100% good fueling system.
