C Series 6cyl to 8cyl swap

Newbie here, I own a few IH pickups/Travelall’s from the 70’s. Looking at a 1965 crew cab. It currently has a 6 cyl engine that runs, but not well….very tired. I have a new/rebuilt 345 that I’d like to use in it. Is it much of a job to do a swap like that? Seems like I’ve seen trucks of similar vintage with the 266 and 304 in them. Apologies if this has been asked a million times. (I did try to do s search before posting). Thanks!

The C-series trucks could certainly be spec'd from the factory with SV8 engines. The differences of course would include engine mounts, drive shaft lengths and likely radiator, or at least coolant hoses. A copy of the IH parts catalog for C-series trucks would be very helpful in comparing and contrasting which components were the same or different between the I-6 and SV8 equipped trucks.

Thanks. Sound like donor and/or parts trucks are in order..? Yeah, I’m due for some manuals and parts catalogs. Been just makin it up and watching YouTube. Also, I’ve slowly gotten rid of all my other “classic” vehicles….as these darn IH rigs keep creeping in. Time to read the writing on the wall and start taking my IH rigs seriously. Fun trucks, love ‘em…
