Building Tradition

My first Scout build has taught me so much already. My kids are enjoying hitting it with a hammer and asking where the seats are daddy? I believe I have a great idea, my kids first vehicle will be a Scout that they have to rebuild. Ill buy it 1 year before and let them work a parttime job to buy the things that will make it there owe. We work on it together and build a Scout and memories at the same time. Im crazy about my kids and love to share my awesome hobby with them.

Any thoughts on my daughters first Scout? (no back bench):frown2:

or anyone has done this in the past? Pros and cons?

Thank you

The terra I own was my grandpa's. We worked on it up til the day he died. My Dad and I built one. Its fun.

I say hell yes its a good idea. I think your kids will love it

I think its a fine idea. What better way for a kid to develop appreciation for their ride than to be involved in rehabilitating it. You don't learn that by having your daddy buy a turnkey hoopdee for you. Depending on the project's condition when first acquired, a one year build time May be optimistic. The more you continue to tinker on yours, the better feel you will have for that when the time comes. I would also make certain that the child(s) is/are totally on board with the program before too many $$ are invested. Focus on reliability and safety first. Cosmetics can come later. That way the kid can be given a preview of what is to come with an occasional short spin around the block etc, even if the thing looks hideous. Rewards like that help maintain the enthusiasm and patience levels which will stave off project creep. All work and no play as the saying goes.
