Best and Worst

Just thought that I would throw this question out there to everyone. What has been the best modification you have done to your IH and what was the worst? Since everyone uses their scouts and trucks for different things, I was curious what mods were the ones that people thought were definitely worth the time/money and what mods they would pass on doing if they were starting over again. Plus, this gives me something to read when I get bored. :icon_lol:

If your board frog you can come help with our spring over thats taking way to long :mad2: but we hope it will our best mod to date. We are also verry happy with our strate stear & stiffner plate @ the steering box  so hows that d-70 install comming along

Hmmm... Well that is kind of why I threw this thread up. The d70hd is sitting in my garage and I am debating if I want to do the swap. The deal for the h1 wheels and tires that I was quoted 3 months ago was $600 for 5 wheels and tires with 75% tread or better. Now it is closer to $1000 for 5 wheels and tires with 90% tread or better, so the winch that I sold for $600 thinking that I could just turn around and dump it into tires is coming up a bit short. And then there is the question do I want to use a d44 and just upgrade it as I go, or shell out cash (that I don't currently have) and get a 60 for the front. I have hopes that the swap will be done before the end of the year, if I was really optimistic then maybe by the end of the summer. It's the little stuff that is going to add up. New brakelines, ujoints, spring plates, ubolts, etc.
So, that is the progress. On another note, park now works on my transmission for the first time in 2 years.

As far as building a 44 or getting a 60, it all depends on how much you plan to wheel. I wheeled a full width 44 for some years before I got my 60 front. I still have the 44, it's got cromo shafts, detroit locker, high steer and 5.38 gears. It will probably end up under my daughters Scout:devil: .

I think you should run the 70 and build a 44 front, you can find a full width 44 at pnp. A few years down the road if you feel the need, build a 60 and sell the 44.

But, thats just my opinion:lol:

What kind of problems are you guys having? Any way I can help?

Having sean experiment & link up my old red 80 many years ago. Next would be gearing at 170 to 1. Having an onboard welder is a top priority.

The best mod over all was replacing the seats. Good seats means more time behind the wheel with less discomfort. While I was there, the tuffy center console added to that comfort.

Other good mods:
selectable locker
terra low
Scout tilt steering wheel

Best mod: adding a trailer hitch. I've pulled boats, motorcycles, camp trailers, car carriers, cement mixers...

Worst mod: removing the exhaust cross over butterfly. After burning through a couple of sets of exhaust donuts due to misalignment, I put it back in.

Well I am having some progress in the axle swap. I picked up tires and wheels from the shipping dock today. Before I sweated and worked my butt off.

The 37's are much bigger than the 35's I have currently and the runflats are a pain to get in. Hopefully part of one of the best mods. To be continued...

I just got my drivers licens yesterday!!!! Now the next we go on my Dad and I can bring both the Jeep and the Scout. We are almost done with the axle we just have to weild up the shock mounts, the brake lines, and put in a new starter.

Do you have the d20 or the d300? How much difference have you noticed with the teralow?
shoot, I'm not going to be able to wheel with you guys any more.
Then who do I watch get winched?
I better go find some wood to knock on.

I assume this means you are a daddy now? On that assumption I give you a very big congratulation!!

Also, there was talk about I a "family style" club picnic before the summer is over so perhaps you, kate and the little one will be able to join us before the summer is over.

Oh, and so I don't entirely hijack this threat, my best mod was adding a radio... Most of my other mods are crap.

cheers,
Craig
