Back feeding?

I've finally get a reading out of my fuel gauge (dirty contacts), but the gauge stays on constant with the keys turned off? The guage is reading correct for the amount in the tank.

Anyway why or how am I getting a constant power to the sender? The wiring seems in good shape everything on the dash is working. Cvr? I know its wiring but what needs to be checked or what could cause this problem?

You must remove the instrument pod and then trace the feed to the gauge. All the under-dash circuits are going to need inspection to determine what is powering up the cvr with the key switch off.

At the same time clean all the mounting points on the circuit boards, most especially the mounting at the cvr.

Just because the dash system appears to "work", that does not mean everything is correct!

It sounds like you are getting the proper step down voltage to the fuel gauge. That means that power is at least running through your other cluster and cvr. You likely need to check wiring going to that cluster. It probably has an extra wire going to it that it shouldn’t have or someone wired it incorrectly supplying it with constant power.

just saw your post and I thank you, sir. I never had a drain til I cleaned and hooked up the fuel sending unit. So I used my test light between my +battery and cable and removed one fuse at a time time I saw the drain stop and it stopped on the heater fuse, but I never had that problem til I got the fuel gauge working. When I was checking and working on the ps rear harness I noticed it had power (rear dome light?)without the key turned to the on position and a pulsing light (sender unit)? Ciruit 62 feeds comes frome light sw to pl conn hub and it feeds cvr then cir.28 over to fuel on to the sender unit. I don't see how these cross but I'll do some more checking. Could the ign. Sw cause this problem?

If anybody can think of anything please advise!
