Good morning,

My name is Chris and I’ve been part of the IH community for almost a decade. I’m looking to take a role in helping bring the BABS community together. At the recent 2024 IHSFR, I spent time with Dave Perez and we talked about breathing new life into the group. Dave recently emailed me his old contact list which I have to sort through and start some outreach. There is new blood out there, we just have to connect everyone.

I’m not looking to step on the toes of the old BABS leadership and want to help where I can. Someone let me know if I am overstepping. My intention is to create an email list and send 4 emails a year because no one likes too much spam. The email would be pointing to smaller regional meets (North Bay, South Bay, SF, etc) like cars and coffee, a trail run, etc. Also to promote the larger annual events (IHSFR, IHWR, etc). The email would link to the existing IHPA forum BABS page and a facebook group for more active conversations. I can’t promise this will be made overnight, but I can promise I’ll be working on it.

And, then there were the Saturday "Work Days". These 2 pics are from the Walnut Creek day.
There was always a BBQ, with all the trimmings in the afternoon. Another occasion of where we passed the hat rather than use club funds. Oh that's right; no treasurer.

Still no interest into the social side of the IH World?
Now, add up all the time, effort & expense that went into building your rig. You'd think that many of you would like to gather-up your stuff, head to Hollister for some weekend wheeling, camping & partying. Might, I suggest the sycamore campground.

On a side note, I seem to use this emoji more lately :unsure:
The possibilities of locally growing the BABS Activities / Social side of the IH World again via the IHPA forum are in place. What do you have to lose?

Might be a precursor to the Sierra Fall Rallye?

I remember Doc writing the non-bylaws. It was funny then, and just as funny today.

And, it's the truth.
Preface -- Current BABS non-laws as scripted by the honorable Doc.
This applies to any location. Just change a few names to protect the innocent where applicable.

• we don’t have a president: Dave is hereby appointed maven. He calls the meetings Unless someone else calls a meeting….

• we don’t have dues: funds are raised officially by the maven saying” hey, we need some money for ______ project/activity. Ante up”

• treasurer: no money, no treasurer.

• secretary: nothing of note happens anyway and there are precious few IH owners who can write legibly.

• rules of order: Marty smacks miscreants on the noggin with a coke bottle in cases of disorder. Otherwise, do as the maven directs.

• society goals: play with old IH iron. Anybody else can come along because we need something to practice towing.

• affiliations: join a state wide club so we can go to other people’s parties, too.

• elections: I vote for Dave. Any dissents? Talk to the guy with the coke bottle.

• membership: own an IH something or other and show up at a meeting, dinner or event. Families are welcome.

• website: we are welcome to post on IHPartsAmerica.com forum

• notification: by email. If you don’t email, ask your kid to use his/hers.

• change of non-laws: when and what the maven decides. Dissenters can talk to the coke bottle.

• dissolution: nobody shows up

The 1st San Jose workday. 10 trucks. We all thought it was a success. So we tried it again the following year

2nd San Jose workday. About 20 trucks came & went throughout the day. A lot was accomplished that Saturday. Joe had his hands full welding most of the day.

Cheese's account of Scooters hill roll

My recap of the incident:

I was following carl who has a very capable (near buggy) Scout and kimball was behind me. For those of you who are familiar with five fingers at hollister this hill climb is like that, but without the steps and probably twice as long (a bit of a pucker going up this baby). As we went up carl got to a small curve and stopped as he noticed kimball was lagging behind. I had to stop behind carl (I did not like that). After a couple seconds I asked carl to continue on as there was not much either of us would be able to do on that hill facing upward other than go up and I was afraid if I stayed there too long I might have carb or braking issues that could put me in a bad situation quick (like kimball… did I mention this hill was steep as hell?). We continued way up to the top parked our rigs and started back down to kimball on foot. I was going pretty fast when I heard the booming. Carl said maybe it is his carb backfiring… I said I hope so and we picked up the pace into dangerously fast… man is that a steep hill!! As we continued on to where we last saw him looking down the hill we did not see him. Carl yelled scooter and we heard him yell back “help” (twice) at this point I was looking at my phone to see if I had cell service which I did (thinking 911) as I negotiated rapidly down the hill. Then we saw scooter half under the Scout and half out of the Scout and before a nano second passed carl was yelling are you pinned (again this was a really freaky moment!!). Kimball yelled back no I’m okay and despite what I was looking at I felt a quick sigh of relief. Then he scooted (pun intended) out from under it and I could see he was not only moving normal, but there was no blood or anything. He was even talking coherently despite being shook up and said “it is on fire, but there is water up the hill”. I ran back up to the water that had flown out and started throwing bottles down to carl and kimball… about 6 bottles of water later it was out and the truck was sitting there upside down hissing from air escaping the lockers, etc... It was one pissed of truck! In any case the rest of the evening was spent rounding people up and recovering / getting the truck back to camp. We got him down to the gate yesterday and loaded onto a aaa flatbed
