another wiring question

I finished my duraspark conversion, I want to put the Ford remote ( hot start )solenoid on also and I am wandering about the ballast resistor. If I have read correctly the resistor is used to lower voltage to the coil to preserve points life. But if I remember correctly mine also had a ( bypass wire ? ) so it would get full power to starter then regulate voltage to the coil after starting. I am rewiring with ezwire kit, if that makes any difference. Thanks

and thanks bill for that conversion. I just went to parts store got the whole dist. For the Ford ($75.00) took out the brand new parts, took the housing back for core and got 35.00 back.

40 bucks total = all new parts in dist. Woohoo!!

I guess I did not really do a good job of posing my question. I was wondering if with the duraspark conversion I still need to regulate the coil voltage output to the distributor using the ballast resistor? Do I need to change coils or will my accel yellow super stock coil work?

I'm running a full 12 volts to my coil. I started to do the Ford dura spark conversion, but ended up going FI and used a GM coil. Since its all electronic no reduction in voltage is needed.
But that explains why I keep burning up points on my old pickup. (po must have pulled it) I converted that to electronic years ago and could not be happier. I know a lot of people are doing the mopar conversion vs the dura spark as you don't need that extra box. But sounds like you made out good on yours.

I bypassed the amp meter ( moved the blue wire from one side to the other, so both wires on one terminal) I no longer run the output of the alternator through the cab either. Look for a circa 1990 GM pickup in the jy, on the pass side fire wall is a nice terminal block. Mount that to on your fire wire and use it like GM did.
I cut all the fuse-able links too, as you can solder them to your wires for extra protection.

Here's a pic from about 4 years ago. Showing where I mount my block. Plus you can see the starter relay too

Thanks, and I will be looking for that t-block tomorrow looks like it helps keep wires neat and out of the way. You said you cut all fusible links is that the action of the t-block ? Did you just fuse the whole t-block?

All the wires that connect to the block have a fuseable links too.
Since the studs are like 5/16 I just solder the fuseable link to the wire I want to attach. This way I get the extra protection and a nice lug to attach to the terminal block. Don't forget to save the nuts that come off as they are an alloy nut that needs to be used. If your hitting the jy, look for FI relays too. The 1989-92 Chevy caprice, and some buicks have nice water tight relays. I used them for headlight upgrades. "bright lights" plus they have nice water tight fuse holders too.
