A couple years ago I had an electrical problem on my Scout and somewhere along the lines I smoked my ECM - it actually started smoking and smelled like melting plastic. After shutting of the truck and pulling the computer out - all I could do was reinstall it and try and run it. It still ran!! I did swap it out when I got home and tracked the problem down to a grounding issue.
Fast forward a couple years and I was looking for an ECM to mod for 28 pin chips and I found this one - but then remembered that it almost caught fire. So I snapped some pictures to show the true hardiness of these little systems.
A melted pin:
A hole in the ribbon:
A almost burned through connector:
Try setting your carb on fire and driving home! No actually don't try that... Never mind...
