always surgeing

While you seem to have covered the 'normal' places to check, you haven't said 'which' sparkplugs were installed and did you verify the plug gap? With a stock coil, try 32/1000. You have replaced the distributor but have you checked the 'dwell' of the points gap? Should read between 28 to 32 degrees. Was any 'lube' applied to the cam surface or 'rubbing block' of the points to cut down on wear? As for if it was stabbed correctly, it is - or the motor would not be running. There should be a number on the 'arm' of the vacuum advance unit. The number indicates the amount of additional advance supplied by the vacuum advance. As the dist is a reman unit, it will help to know the amount of 'mechanical advance' and the rate of advance. Then the vacuum advance will be added to the total.
Meanwhile, consider replacing the concenser in the distributor.

By golly I think I found the culprit. I was checking to see if I had stabbed the dist. Right and that checked ok. I started checking my plug wires on the dist. That had a 90deg. Boot and 1 of them wasn't in all the way, straightened that out and that got rid of the slight miss. Rechecked the intake vac. With the air/fuel screws at 1.25 turns was holding steady at 19.5.

We just had quite a rain shower go thru, when the roads dry up some goin go for a ride, I am quite sure its going to be better.

Yep runs like a new truck now, smooth as silk. I have opened the air/fuel screws a little more to almost 1.5 turns. Thought I would run that a little while then check spark plug color.
Thanks for all your help.
