Air suspensions

I just read an interesting article in the latest trailer life magazine about swapping out the stock rear suspension with a full air ride suspension. It isn't just an air bag to help the standard leaf springs but a true air ride suspension like those found on big trucks.

In the January 2013 issue they reviewed the firestone version that is still basically an air bag assist to steel leaves. http://www.trailerlife.com/trailer-...ips/firestone-r4tech-air-suspension-system-2/

In the March 2013 issue they reviewed the auto flex suspension that is a true air ride suspension that eliminates all of the steel leaves.

Since it has a ride height sensor I would imagine it might be an interesting addition to a 'binder that has been lifted so that the ride could be "kneeled" to ease entrance and exit from the vehicle.

If it weren't for the expense I would be interested in retrofitting my 3/4-ton Travelall whose suspension is less than friendly when going down the road. It would also make it much easier for my wife and 4-year old daughter to get in and out.

But then, if wishes were horses...
