Howdy fellow IH bros.

Im falling in love with my Scout....despite the rust...she's beautiful to me!!

Ok...this is my 3rd carb install.

First I rebuilt a 2100...original carb..mistake..could not get it to run right...tossed it into the parts pile to scab from

then I got a 2300...but it was too low on cfm...
I spent prolly 200 on that carb total...and even so when I turned the air fuel mix screws to zero...she still ran...but my understanding was...she should die from fuel starvation....she actually ran better...but not well.

Then I met a carb guy who had a brand new 7448...350 cfm ...with 65 power valve and stock jets....not sure...he didn't know...and I didn't open her up to see.

Installed that wonderful carb...and boy or boy!!! My Scout scoots and boots!!! Runs awesome....one vac ported vac..no leaks...just simple and clean...

I don't even need to choke her in the mornng! (ewh...that sounded weird)

anyway...we went on a long trip to califonication...and got only 10 mpg.

I put my finger in the exhaust...after 8 hours of non stop freeway...and got a healthy dose of black on my finger...which wasn't there before.

So...I think I am right in assumng...we could do better on gas consumption....and I need to adjust the carb some

dont get me wrong...she ran up sis-q pass like a bat out of hell..but 10mpg? Yikes!!

So I let her run ...hot...and adjusted the air fuel mix ( I had her at 1.5 turns...

She seemd to run a tad bit smoother as I leaned her out....
But that could be my imagination.

Am I possibly running jets too big?...or am I on the right track adjusting air fuel?

Now..I did adjust her down to zero...both sides...and like the prvious (wrong carb)...she still runs!!

That surprized me...I expected her to shut down....the Holley video I watched says that zero..(no I didn't mash it down)...should starve engine completely...but ...it didn't!!!

Now I am wondering if I have a blown power valve? But that is impossible...cuz this is a brand new carb...with back fire prevention....and we never backfired ..ever!!

Help dudes!!!
