Access behind dashboard

I just purchased a 1972 Scout II, 4x4, 345.

The heater fan does not work. I started out by removing the fan and testing it and working my way back through the wiring. I removed the ash tray and could just barely see that there were no wires connected to the fan switch. I do have a/c so I am completely blocked from access below. I started removing the main panel cover over the gauges. Before I start removing every thing, is there easy access behind the fan controller?

Thanks!

To everyone who has posted in the tech forum.... Thank you! So much good information! This is truly a great place!

Welcome.

Unless you have extremely small hands and good eye sight through the dash panel, it's a tedious job to tinker with the wiring back there. Taking out the speedo unit and stereo helps gain access to the ole wire harness. The heater vent tubes behing the dash makes it difficult to navigate.

Btw - I used to live a few mile down the coast from ya. Spent many years surfing manhattan, along with up and down the beach in that area.

Thanks. I was afraid of that! I was kind of wishing there was a large hinged door that I did not originally see.

I spent many years surfing el porto!

Yup, been there done that. Mostly I was shooting the pier. And some trips up and down the coast in that area.

Btw - I am in somewhat dealing with some electrical gremlins in my own 72 Scout. So I can relate to what you're dealing with
