A/C belt tension adjustment

I bought the conversion plate to use new compressor ( york to sanden ). My question is how to adjust belt tension. I assume the long nut welded to the center of the plate has something to do with this. Am I missing a piece or ? Thanks

You remove the tension screw from the oem compressor mount and re-use in the new adapter. That is assuming the adapter is sourced from ihon.

It's nicer to simply purchase a new grade 8 bolt of the correct length and use that.

Thanks, I will get a new bolt. It had the mount for the old york but no compressor so I didn't have a bolt in there. I see now how it presses up against the little steel block welded to the bracket. Looks as if the belt I got from napa is going to be too long though I think its about 33'' I think I might need about a 30'' or 31''.

Replacement drive belts for any compressor can be a problem to make a positive id. I always use a belt that will barely install when the tensioner is "in". That way you will have full adjustment.

But...you must pay close attention that the clutch pulley/belt does not come close to the radiator hose assembly. The actual clutch pulley od will vary to a great degree regarding the aftermarket replacement compressors.

Some of the replacement compressors use a belt pulley that does use an exact 3/16" or 1/4" width across the top (that would be two different belt configurations). Many of the clutch pulleys are the so-called "variable" design as used on the oem cci/york compressor, that pulley can use at least three different belt widths though none of 'em are actually "accurate".
